Says P J Francis who defeated V S Achuthanadan at Mararikulam in 1996, “Though I won the election by 1960 votes, VS haunted me for the next four and a half years by dragging me to courts.” VS filed an election petition in the High Court alleging that ‘unauthorized and illegal ballot papers’ were used. However, the High Court set aside the petition and directed Achuthandan to pay Francis Rs.10,000 as litigation cost. (Source: New Indian Express, 28th March 2011)
